Bio

Pianist and Vibraphonist Matt Williams has been praised for his "ear-catching" improvisation (Jazz Society of Oregon), and has established himself as an important voice in creative music. His latest projects include recording and releasing his debut album with his new group Multiplayer, and continuing to work towards releasing his next piano trio album in 2024.

Matt keeps an active performance schedule in and around the Seattle area, playing with his piano trio, exploring solo piano selections, and adding his voice to any number of bands and projects from across the country. He has performed with John Bishop, Michael Glynn, Paul Gabrielson, Brian Kirk, Jay Thomas, Steve Rodby, Levi Gillis, Ray Larsen, Neil Welch, Adam Kessler, Remy Morritt, Rex Gregory, Abbey Blackwell, Jose Martinez, Geoff Harper, Skyler Floe, Xavier Lecouturier, Dylan Hayes, Phil Sparks, D’Vonne Lewis, Ronan Delisle, Max Holmberg, Jared Hall, Nicole McCabe, Logan Kane and many others.

After relocating to Phoenix from Kansas City at age 17, Matt quickly became a first-call pianist, vibraphonist and instructor in the Phoenix jazz scene for almost a decade. Performing professionally with artists such as Michael Kocour, Brice Winston, Eric Rasmussen, Will Goble, Chloe Rowlands, Jacques Lesure, Keith Kelly, Jeff Libman, Micah Hummel, Paul-Erik Melhus and Alex Meltzer among others. 

Matt also continues to be an in-demand musician in the Kansas City jazz scene appearing with artists Peter Schlamb, Ryan Lee, Matt Villinger, Karl McComas Reichl, Hermon Mehari, Eddie Moore and many others.

In addition to his work as an artist and performer, Matt is a dedicated educator who provides master classes, clinics, small and large group coaching, and private instruction. He has also served as an adjunct course instructor and teaching assistant at Arizona State University. Matt has instructed alongside legendary jazz drummer Lewis Nash, and served as the jazz education and workshops program coordinator at "one of the world's greatest jazz venues" (Downbeat Magazine), The Nash.

 

Matt Williams earned his BM and MM in Jazz Piano Performance from Arizona State University.

Other highlight performances include the Paradise Valley Jazz Party, Scottsdale Center for the Arts, Tempe Center for the Arts, private events for former chief justice Sandra Day O’Connor, Kenny Barron, and the Steinway Piano Company. Additionally, Matt has performed at a number of venues across the US, including Green Lady Lounge, Orion Room, The Blue Room, The Nash, Bobby C's, The Lost LeafValley Bar, Tula’s Jazz Club, The Royal Room, Washington Hall, The Jazz Showcase and many more.
